New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) “informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring.” Spitzer “abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day” and “is set to make an announcement about 2:15 this afternoon at his Manhattan office.”

UPDATE: Fox News is reporting that sources say Spitzer is “expected to resign.”

UPDATE II: In his public statement, Spitzer apologized to the public and his family but did not resign.

UPDATE III: TNR notes that Spitzer once prosecuted prostitution rings.
