A friend sent me a link to the following found on YouTube.
From Al-Jazeera English:
Compared to other countries in Latin America with sizeable Muslim communities, Mexico’s Muslim population is tiny. In southern Mexico, the indigenous Mayan population is a minority. But another minority is being created within that group, as more and more Mayans convert from Catholicism. In Chiapas, Frank Contreras takes a look at how Islam is gaining a foothold in the region.

I don’t have a problem with Mexicans converting to the religion of their choice, however, let’s face it, Islamic terrorism is a world-wide problem. Where there are Muslims whom extremists feel are being oppressed by non-believers, they will find justification in Islam for committing acts of terror.

I don’t think radical Islam would gain much traction here. These people do not take kindly to attempts to assimilate them.
Which people, the recent converts to Islam?
Do you think Islam is a serious threat to our Judeo-Christian heritage?
“Which people, the recent converts to Islam?”
The Maya. They’ve been fighting for centuries to maintain their culture, language, identity, and, for quite a while, sovereignty; they’re not going to be terribly happy if the al-Qaeda trainer they ship in takes one look at the women’s multihued garb and informs them that they must wear the traditional Arab jilbab or else they shall burn in hellfire forevermore. I’m surprised that this many indigens converted at all; the only way I can see Islam spreading widely among the Maya is if some sort of “72 Virgins of Guadalupe” event were to occur, which would give Islam the necessary native credentials.
“Do you think Islam is a serious threat to our Judeo-Christian heritage?”
Only if it develops the ability to travel backwards in time.
