LiveLeak Hosts Fitna

Thanks Velvet Hammer!

The film was pretty much what I had expected. I liked the direct references to the Qur’an, and the quotes of Muslim leaders in the Middle East. What I did not like was what I perceived as scare-tactics interspersed throughout the video. I know that some may criticize me for saying that, but it is my opinion that a sound argument presented logically does not need to appeal to the emotions. Since the film was divided into three main topics, namely 1) excerpts from the Qur’an, 2) shocking imagery and statements from Muslims and 3) a very small amount of statistical data is presented, I think that it is worth viewing (and besides, you know you’re curious ;) ), however, I would have liked to see more of topics 1) and 3) and less of the emotional appeals of 2).

But what do I know? Go over to Ironic Surrealism (II) and watch it for yourself!

“a sound argument presented logically does not need to appeal to the emotions”

Completely true, so long as you are dealing with logical, free thinking people willing to evaluate an argument on its merits. Unfortunately, the sheep have to be frightened awake.

    Umm… Excuse me?

Are you saying that Wilders considers his target audience illogical, dogmatic sheeple (if you will)?

I for one, would have liked a more logical presentation. He’s using fear tactics similar to the trash that the BNP puts out. I don’t consider Wilders to be as extreme as the BNP, but still, talk to me like a rational person, I’m not going to get worked into a frenzy at the sight of video clips that I’ve seen several times in the past.

    kno’m'talkin’bout?

hmm… perhaps I see Wilders’ target audience as illogical, dogmatic sheeple. You might have more faith in humanity than I do.

Funny you should mention getting worked into a frenzy. How many people rioted over the presumed existence of Fitna before it was released?

Furthermore, you and I might not be Wilders’ target audience. We already look critically at both the text of the Quran and the comments of Islamic leaders.

Frankly, I wouldn’t want the support of an unruly mob. I don’t see why Wilders would either.

I don’t know that he’s wanting the support of an unruly mob. I think he is simply trying to shake some people’s cages in the hope that they might look at the relationship between Islam and terrorism more closely… maybe even look at the West’s enabling, multi-culti tendency to submit.

maybe even look at the West’s enabling, multi-culti tendency to submit.

What do you mean when you say that the West has a tendency that is:

    1) enabling

    and

    2) multi-culti

And what do you mean by “submit”? “Submit” to what? To whom?

You don’t have to answer those questions, melo. Just keep this in mind.

I would like to believe that good will always win over evil. It is, however, the goodness of the cultures of the West that Islamists abuse.

    Konservo,
I’m with you. It should’ve just focused on the Koran and word of Islamists. That alone was needed, not beheadings and a future Islamic Europe.
    So I’m with you!

    What “shocking imagery” was there?

    What “shocking imagery” was there?

I’m talking about the scenes of terrorist attacks, dead bodies and the like.

There’s a good discussion in the comments at The Volokh Conspiracy.

Heyyy, Konservo. What I wrote was not a critic of yours, it was just a note.
A dime a dozen blog has written a much stronger critic than you, precisey considering it as a film only. Go over and read it!!
Perhaps it sounded like very hard on you, but there was a troll at the blog telling me that Wilders was causing racism and that the film was not very good because it did not critisize Iraqi constitution which enshrines the Sharia as the supreme law. And commenting how idiot Wilders was and how bad the film was…. blahblahblah. So sorry if that was the case :( but really that was NOT the intention…

By the way, Liveleak has erased the film from its servers, due to threats to their staff. The film is now substituted by the note from Liveleak.

And OK but I don’t think you are silly at all
