Theologo-Fascist Persecutes Atheist

The audio clip below is a recording of Illinois General Assemblywoman (and apparent Theologo-Fascist) Representative Monique Davis.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) interrupted atheist activist Rob Sherman during his testimony Wednesday afternoon before the House State Government Administration Committee in Springfield and told him, “What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous . . . it’s dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists!

“This is the Land of Lincoln where people believe in God,” Davis said. “Get out of that seat . . . You have no right to be here! We believe in something. You believe in destroying! You believe in destroying what this state was built upon.”

(ChicagoTribune via Volokh) (H/T - Melo)

Now, when I say that Ms. Davis is a “Theologo-Fascist” I am not being sardonic (as I was when I used the term in this post). Nor do I mean that any type of theological ideology is per se a fascist ideology.

What I mean is that the view she is expressing here is religious fascism.†

† It seems to me that she herself is Christian, but she does not express the views of any particular religious supremacism (i.e. I don’t think she has a problem with Jews and Muslims, just atheists).

Somehow, I knew you’d have to post on this one.
Unfortunately, I know too many fundamentalists that think similarly. Hmm… perhaps I should rephrase that. I am related to too many fundamentalists that think similarly.

It’s good that this story has gotten legs. There have been calls for her to resign.
