It’s not Islamofascism unless women are properly oppressed and all Satan worshippers are persecuted duly.
TEHRAN (AFP) — Iranian police will confront women in private offices, or even socialising in cafes, whose dress is deemed improper, as part of a continued morality crackdown, Tehran’s police chief said on Thursday.
Police have been enforcing the crackdown for the past year and its morality patrol officers have handed tens of thousands of warnings to women on Tehran’s streets.
All emphasis is mine:
“As part of the campaign to increase security in society, the police in the capital will soon act against bad veiling in private companies, cafes, internet cafes and restaurants,” Commander Ahmad Reza Radan said.
There, you see. It’s in the interest of “security in society” that a woman cover herself properly with the chador:

The Iranis must feel much safer when women are forced to comply with this dress code… Right?
“The police will deal strictly against those who do not respect the law,” he said, according to the Mehr news agency.
He added that police would also be acting against “satan-worshipping” groups but did not give further details.
Presumably, this means Bahai’is or other non-Muslims. I’m sure we will be reading about the details soon enough, unfortunately.
The length and severity of the crackdown has been unprecedented in the Islamic republic in recent years. Vans of the moral police are still a common sight in Tehran’s main squares as officials monitor passing women.
Women deemed inappropriately dressed are usually hauled to a moral detention centre to sign a written pledge not to repeat the offence and await family members to bring them more modest clothing.
And if they break this pledge?
Since the Islamic revolution in 1979, every post-pubescent woman, regardless of her nationality and religion, has been required to observe the Islamic dress code in public in Iran.
But the law is flouted by many, especially in middle class and affluent urban areas.
The police have insisted that their drive is almost universally popular with the public but women who sport loose headscarves and tight short coats are still a regular feature on Tehran’s streets.
Well, I guess if it’s “almost universally popular” these women who do not comply have to be incompetent… oh, wait, no.
The Irani police are lying.

“The police have insisted that their drive is almost universally popular with the public”
Then why is there a problem to begin with?
Sergei,
I’ve offerred an answer that makes everyone happy:
Incompetence.
They’re women after all!
/kidding
(btw, I edited the ‘y’ to an ‘n’ in your comment.)
Gee… why is there a problem? Could it be that even women like freedom? Or perhaps they resent having some old, perverted clerics declaring even their hair sinful?
Here’s where I mention Reading Lolita in Tehran again. The book is even better if you like the subversive, Western literature the group of women read. It is one of very few books to ever make me cry…. and I have read many books.
melo,
I’m going to have to ask you to cool it, okay. I don’t want to ban you, but you were pushing it with this comment, and now you’re talking about crying over a book.
Get ahold of yourself woman!
konservo,
What?
My take is that the Muslim Cleric’s Dictatorship must be brought to its knees.
The Spine of the Iranian Theocracy must be severed. Iran must be brought to its knees.
We need another CIA engineered coup just like we had one in 1953.
Ahmadinejad and his band of terrorists have a suite waiting for them in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
Iranian Ajax ,
I agree! We need to free the Iranian people fromtheir Crypto-Arab regime.
Yes, stupid Iranian theocracy thinks that it is an Arab nation.
Fact of the matter is that we (as in the US and its Western Allies) need to free the world and rid the world of this God damn tumor called Islam.
Arabs and their “religion” decimated the Iranian people, killed off the Zoroastrians and subjugated the Iranians under the green banner of filth, ahem, Islam.
To hell with the Prophet Mohamamd and the Holy Book he rode in on!
We destroyed the most dangerous ideologies and political movements of the 20th Century: Fascism, National Socialism, Nazism and next up will be Islam!
Iranian Ajax
Nah, fascism, nationalism, socialism, communism, national socialism, etc. still exist today. We’ve even got Neo-Nazis.
What we did was step in when things got out of hand, since it is an ideology, it can change (as the aforementioned ideologies have over time). Radical Islam will die out, and the healthy Islam will continue to live on. That’s how these things work, the hubris and pride of the extremists and terrorists will be their downfall.
Just because they exist today in fringe groups does not mean that they are not defeated ideologies.
Communism has been discredited, dismantled and destroyed.
But on a much brighter note, the Iranian chief of police got caught in an “Eliot Spitzer” style scandal….
He was caught with his pants down with a bunch of naked prostitutes.
The ruling Mullahs say that it is a “minor personal” matter. Double standards.
I hope that the green banner of islam crumbles….in fact, I hope that Islamic institutions the world over burn to the ground!

Iranian Ajax,
As a Hispanic-Latin I am decended from Romans. Rome’s main Rival was Sassanian Persia. Pre-Islamic Persia was an honorable opponent and the Romans thought highly of them. Unfortunently your ancestors and mine fought the terrible Roman-Persian war from 605-626 that weakend both Empires and allowed the followers of the Pedophile False Prophet to destroy both great civilizations.
Iranians by natuire have more in common with the West, then the Desert Bandits around them. I hope Iran wakes up and becomes Zorastorian again.
Iranian Ajax,
Is Ahmadinejad Arab? He doesn’t look Persian.
“Is Ahmadinejad Arab? He doesn’t look Persian.”
“Ahmadinejad” is an extremely Persian name.
Sergei,
Thanks for that. But he does look Arab and not Persian. Could he be of Arab origin, but with a Persianized name?
Hmmm…
He looks pretty Persian to me.
From what I’ve seened Persians tend to be very light skinned and can pass for Greek, Armenain, Spanish or Italian. He’s pretty dark and looks Arabic. I could be wrong. Maybe he goes tanning!
Let’s see what Sergei has to say, he’s the expert on all things Persian.
I don’t know…
Look at him wearing these shades. That’s the Persian elitist style, as opposed to the Arab elitist style.
Also, I don’t know about determining his nationality based on skin color, after all, there are some white Latinos, but he doesn’t seem to be that dark-skinned:

Good point, as I’m a White Hispanic myself and my Grandfather looks Irish. It could just be Persians comes in different shades. Maybe some of Iran are hotter so the people are darker and in the colder parts, they’re light skinned. It’s the sun that determines people complextions.
Sergei can clear this up. But I think you’re correct.
Iran is an extremely multi-ethnic nation. I have no idea whether or not Ahmadinejad is ethnic Persian; he could well be Azeri or Mazendarani or Balochi or what have you.
He’s from an ethnic Persian part of the country.
Sergei
Ok, That’s what I thought. Iranians ethnicities have all inetrmarried with each other that then though someone is a Persian speaker doesn’t mean, they are of Persian origin. It just means that culturally they’re Persian, so they are Persian anyway.
Culture, not race or ethicity is what determines a what a person should be classified as in my opinion. A Black American has more in common with a White American, than he would have with an African. Just like I have more in common with Anglo-Americans, than with someone from Spain or Cuba.
It’s all about Culture.
The only reason I brought this up is because I’v seen Iranian-American websites taunting him and calling him an Arab and that he’s not really Persian. I gues they’re just making fun of him
Sergei,
You’re the authority on this and I go with what you say.
He’s Persian!
Sorry I have been out of the loop guys….
I think Ahmadinejad is a wanna-be Arab.
You are right, the Persians are more Western than they want to think they are. There is a huge – read “canyon” – discrepancy between the anti-Americanism in Iran than in the rest of the Arab/Muslim world.
What is strange is that the US is pushing for Democracy in Iran. But factually, in 1953, Iran WAS a thriving Democracy under PM Mossadegh. We overthrew him (by “we” I mean the US) and I think that it is fair to say that most of the problems we are facing now can be traced to the door step of that operation…..
What happened was that the British lost their oil fields and stuff after Mossadegh nationalized the oil companies. So the Brits went to Truman saying that they want to overthrow the Prime Minister. Truman says no, because he does not want to set a bad precedent for the newly created CIA.
But then Eisenhower comes to power. But this time, the Brits had a better plan: paint the Iranian PM as a Communist. This, according to Stephen Kinzer was wrong. Mossadegh hated Communism. But the Brits played the Red card anyway….
I will have a video up on this on my site soon as well as an article that I have that was printed in the New York Times TWO DAYS before the overthrow of Mossadegh….

BTW, I just gave a review of a killer movie if you are interested….I also have a clip of that movie….it’s on my blog.
