U.S. Confirms That Israel Did, in fact, Take Out Nuclear Reactor in Syria (i.e. one of the members of the Axis of Evil)

I wrote this last Oct:

On September 6th an Israeli air-strike took out a Syrian facility of some sort. Despite speculation that Syria might have been actively pursuing nuclear weapons, Syria has maintained that it was an “unused military facility or an agricultural research facility.” Israel has remained silent, yet smug, about the results of the mission, which tells me that it involved something more than “unused military facility.”

We all knew that it was a nuclear facility, especially after Syrian officials at the UN messed up, let it slip, and then blamed the U.N. translator.

American and Israeli officials have been quiet about this event thus far. Because, you see, we don’t need to brag about every time we smack down evil doers, we’re bigger than that. Check out the video:

from www.reuters.com posted with vodpod

From Reuters:

Apr 25 - The U.S government releases a narrated video purporting to show a secret nuclear reactor in Syria. This video was released by U.S. officials on Thursday ( 24th April 2008 ) as part of briefings to lawmakers and reporters, during which the central claim was stated that Syria had been constructing a nuclear reactor with help from North Korea and that it was ‘not intended for peaceful purposes.’ Syria has denied the U.S. charge as ‘a fantasy’ while North Korea has previously denied proliferation. The head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog the IAEA said it would treat the report with the ’seriousness it deserves.’ Israel destroyed the suspected reactor in an air strike on September 6, 2007 in an operation initially shrouded in secrecy.

Geez Louise, Konservo! Are you wrong about absolutely everything? The Axis of Evil that Bush referred to was: Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. not Syria. Also, why do you still believe anything that comes out of the White House? If Bush says it’s true, it is almost certainly a bold-faced lie.

Top U.S. intelligence officials who briefed reporters in Washington Thursday said they had high confidence in the judgment that North Korea had aided Syria with a nuclear program whose aim was to produce plutonium. But they claimed only low confidence for the conclusion that it was meant for weapons development, in part because there was no reprocessing facility at the site — something that would be needed to extract plutonium from spent reactor fuel for use in a bomb.

Remember its not me saying it, its your elected officials.

    Oh, Edmund.

You must have missed this post of mine.

    Yogi,

I don’t mention Bush in this post. WTF are you talking about?

    Anyway, you say:

The Axis of Evil that Bush referred to was: Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. not Syria.

Okay, so Bush doesn’t say that Syria is part of the Axis of Evil. Gotcha.
    But wait, then you say:

If Bush says it’s true, it is almost certainly a bold-faced lie.

You guys have been making this too easy lately.

Nice try Konservo, but you failed to take into consideration the qualifying, “almost”. You’re still a nitwit. That’s not a problem though, the internet is full of rightwing dopes.
Will you be joining your mentor at the riots in Denver?

John Bolton pretty much added Syria to the Axis of Evil in his Beyond the Axis of Evil speech. In addition, Syria is a member of the Axis of Terror, also known as the Axis of Terror and Hate.

Trajan, I have no allies in Syria. Israeli broke international law, pure and simple. By bombing that facility, they are actually making themselves more vulnerable to a nuclear strike. At some point, Muslim extremists will assume control in Pakistan. You do realize where this is going? If Pakistan feels threatened by Israel, don’t they have a right to pre-emptively bomb them?
You rightwing dolts, be you Muslim, Jewish, or Christian are absolute fools. The concept of mutually assured destruction worked OK for us, why isn’t it good enough for Israel?

The concept of mutually assured destruction does not work when one side actively seeks martyrdom.

It’s good to see that our intelligence got it right this time.

To those who don’t think it was a nuclear site, if it wasn’t, don’t you think that Syria would have reacted a little more forcefully? They wanted the issue to go away even more than the Israelis did (much more, in fact, since the Israelis pretty much just ignored it).
