While the Obama campaign likes to whine about… well, just about anything they can, and have gone so far as to set up a website in which fabricated “smears” against Obama are “fought” with real smears against conservatives and Republicans, Sarah Palin has been a real victim of negative media coverage and plain old lies.
One of the most horrendous examples of said smears is the awful rumors that have been floating around the Daily Kos (the original lies have been removed after having been posted for several days, but here is the Google cache thanks to LGFer Consumer).

Yesterday, with the news of Sarah Louise Heath Palin inexplicably being chosen as a Vice-Presidential nominee, the attentive American public was also introduced to her character. Unfortunately for all of us, it was filled with multiple instances of backtracking and outright lies. While Alaskans had been giving her an 80% approval rating, recently 87% of Alaskans polled on the subject of TrooperGate believed she was lying.
Now, I’ve known liars in my life. Their single core problem is not with themselves, but those around them. If they’re never called out on their twisting of truths and fabrications, they simply continue to make larger lies.
Well, Sarah, I’m calling you a liar. And not even a good one. Trig Paxson Van Palin is not your son. He is your grandson. The sooner you come forward with this revelation to the public, the better.
Having this type of garbage and lies posted at a site were MSNBC pundit Keith Olbermann and his followers in the angry Left get their news is not the way to run a respectable campaign. Obama himself seems to want to maintain the appearance of dignity, but let’s face it, this is a guy who “launched his political career” from the home of William Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist. It’s no surprise that his followers would attack Gov. Palin like this, that is, it’s no surprise that the Obama camp would fight dirty.
To combat some of these vicious rumors there is a site that is really dedicated to fighting smears. Real smears directed toward Sarah Palin and her family. Check it out. It’s called Fight the Palin Smears and can be found at http://fightthepalinsmears.com/
An excerpt:
The Smear
Fake Pregnancy
Sarah Palin is not the mother of Trig Paxson Van Palin. He is her grandson. Sarah Palin faked her pregnancy in order to cover up a pregnancy of her daughter Bristol.
The Truth
Sarah Palin’s Daughter is Five Months Pregnant
The far left blog DailyKos has tried to viciously smear Ms. Palin and to humiliate her daughter Bristol.
Barack Obama should call for his surrogate, DailyKos, to apologize for these vicious slanders and to keep the private lives of the candidate’s children off of the front pages.
Sarah Palin’s 5th child, Trig, was born with Down’s Syndrome on April 18, 2008.
Sarah Palin announced that her daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and is planning on marrying the father and raising their child.
The McCain campaign found out about Bristol’s pregnancy through the vetting process well before McCain chose Palin as his running mate. The pregnancy was an “open secret” in her home town of Wasilla where most people already knew.
Check out the site for more information and news about the disgraceful and dishonest assault on Mrs. Palin.

We weren’t particularly happy about that either. The person who showed up at News Hounds peddling that stuff ended up being banned.
I was shocked. Usually, and especially in a case with a relatively unknown Gov. from Alaska, it takes time to dig up some real dirt…. time being one, maybe two days minimum. The Kos post about the teenage daughter being the actual mother of the new-born was put together and spread around the net (I believe the AP and NYTimes even mentioned the rumor) before anyone had even asked the Palin or McCain camp any legitimate questions. The whole thing seems to have been based on pictures of the 17y/o holding the new-born while the Gov. was on the phone. It’s ridiculous.
According to http://deligentia.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/enabling-lies-the-palin-factor/, Palin’s lie about not quitting her job also involves misappropriating hunting language that really doesn’t apply. I agree. I wonder how many people will call her on it?
