The America of Ann Coulter’s Dreams
While she was on his show, Ann Coulter was asked by Donny Deutsch what her ideal America would look like. After trying to answer him several times, only for him to cut her answers short, Coulter tells Deutsch that in the America of her dreams everyone would be Christian because it would make things much simpler.
(H/T Hot Air)
Deutsch twisted Coulter’s words so that he could feign outrage. The whole time all Ann could do was sit there and laugh.
At one point Deutsch tries to equivocate Coulter’s remarks with the words of Ahmadinejad, this is a pathetic tactic because not only is it dishonest, but it would only work if the audience was dumb enough to fall for it. The most striking difference between Ann’s words and the words of Ahmadinejad, it seems to me, is that Ann was asked to describe her ideal country and she responded that, among other things, everyone would be Christian, whereas Ahmadinejad calls for Israel to be wiped off the map, literally, in real life. It’s pretty clear that Deutsch expected a controversial statement from Ms. Coulter and when she didn’t give him one, he made something up. As Allahpundit at Hot Air explains,
She thinks Christians have been saved by Christ and Jews haven’t quite gotten there yet, but they will.
Whether or not this interpretation is agreed upon by all Christians is beside the point. Coulter didn’t say anything to indicate that she held anti-Semitic views, for she was speaking hypothetically.
And anyway, if what Coulter said makes her a bigot, then what are we to say about the author of the following verse:
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
Maybe we should rewrite the rock and roll history books, since it is now clear that John Lennon was anti-Semitic and anti-American.
